It's been a hectic season-:
Hi to everyone in organic land. Hasn't it been a strange season - floods through 3 states, and we have been pumping water. Overcast miserable grey days, no rain, no sun = nothing grows! We missed out on the floods this year (we had them 2011), we never got the rain & we never got the sun. We did have some good weeks and some fantastic wwoofers, and some not-so-good weeks & wwoofers.
Other than that we have had a bumper season for animal deliveries. Ours and the local wildlife. Baby ducklings walking around, swimming on the dam. Baby Kookaburras laughing in the trees. Farm cats bring their babies to the house to show them off, and we know we will see them again later as they do their job catching mice.
We now start by telling our helpers that they are living in our family house, and with all families there is laughter and also some stress. We need our privacy just like wwoofers need theirs. However, that doesn't mean not to mingle with our family. A good conversation is a great way to break the ice, and learn more about each others.
At my age I continually seek to learn something new at least once a day, and that is usually possible from conversations, reading and net seeking.
We forgive when a mistake is made & it is brought to our attention as soon as possible. That way we can fix the problem before it becomes unmanageable. However, don't make that mistake again, for that is surely just laziness or they just don't care for others belongings. As you may have guessed, we had a couple of the latter.
I must say that, as is usual, we have had some amusing, generous and fun-loving helpers of all ages.
Thank you all.
Have safe and happy travels all.
From Heavy Rock Farm.
