Life has been a waiting game here on the farm. Waiting for rain, waiting for lambing, waiting to catch those darn feral cats.....
There is a saying - "Farmers are only happy for 3 days of the year- not neccesarily all in a row."
We did have wonderful rain up to March 2011, including the devastating floods before xmas. Unfortunately, what this did was make everything grow, & grow & grow. Got that?
Then we had frosts, and everything that had grown incredibly was now dead from frost burn! The following scenario is the obvious one - everything is extremely flammable. So, with the 4 house fires that occurred because newcomers didn't think to check their flues, we have now had 2 brushfires as newcomers didn't realise that they needed a permit from the fire dept, who would have told them about winds, times, organise to have rurals on hand with sprays, etc to keep control.
Though I wouldn't live any other way :-D
